Historic Flight Marks a Major Milestone for Commercial Spaceflight

Astronauts Reach Orbit After Successful Launch

Cape Canaveral, Florida — After two failed attempts, Boeing's Starliner spacecraft has successfully launched into space, carrying astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) for the first time.

At 6:54 a.m. EDT today, June 10, an Atlas V rocket ignited, lifting the Starliner spacecraft into the sky. The launch marked the culmination of years of development and testing, and is a major milestone for commercial spaceflight.

The Starliner spacecraft is designed to carry up to four astronauts to and from the ISS. It is the second commercial spacecraft certified by NASA for human spaceflight, following SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule. The success of the Starliner mission will pave the way for more routine and affordable access to space.
